There are a lot of projects being planned to improve Tytoo Gardens orphanage. Here is an overview of what we are working on now and what we have planned for the future.
We are in the process of demolishing the roof over the indoor kitchen. 1000 square feet of roof took four men a total of seven and half hours to break the cement away from the rebar, with each blow of the sledge hammer the cement crumbled and broke away in hunks of rock no bigger than four inches, once the cement is chiseled away from the top of the walls they will begin removing the rebar. They are hoping to have the new roof completed by the second week of February!
The plan is to build team rooms on top of the new roof! They are hoping to begin construction on the team rooms when the next team comes down on February 18. To complete the team rooms additional funding will be required.
The cement in the current outdoor eating area for the children at Tytoo is going to be torn up and new cement laid. This will include demolishing the outdoor kitchen once renovations have been completed on the indoor kitchen. The new area will be a much nicer eating and playing area for the children.
The new apartment is about half completed, the walls and ceiling are completed new windows have been put in and most of the electrical is finished, tiling for the floor still needs to be laid, light fixtures and plumbing still need to be done and painting! They are hoping to have the new apartment completed by April and it will be used to house North American staff.
The laundry room was moved beside the boys wash room and the roof was pulled off the old laundry room. That area will either be used for additional bedrooms for the apartment or for an outdoor area for the team rooms.
We also welcomed a new baby to Tytoo on the 22nd of January! He is an adorable little boy born named Steeve at the beginning of July 2011. He has quite the personality and never seems to be without a smile displaying a large dimple in his left cheek! Steeve’s mother ran off a few months ago and his Dad just couldn’t take care of him anymore. The other children welcomed Steve with open arms and he is thriving on all the attention he is getting!!
The outside of the girls rooms were painted at the beginning of last week, with the help of Trudy and Stephanie, two women that came down with Frank and stayed at Tytoo for a week. They spent most of their time loving on the babies and giving out numerous hugs to the children, thanks to them the girls rooms look so much brighter and homey!
Tytoo has welcomed two interns this year:
Tirzah is a 17 year old from Rock Rapids, Iowa. She graduated midterm of her senior year to come down here during January. She plans to stay until April, then return to the states for prom, graduation, and eventually college. Tirzah helps with random projects around Tytoo, hangs out with the kids, and helps out with serving lunch at the school.
Rachel is a 19 years old from Port Elgin Ontario. She was home schooled through high school, she graduated two years ago and was working at Tim Hortins up until a week before she came here on November 22, she was planning to return home on the 25 of January, but she loved Tytoo and the kids so much that she decided to stay until the end of March. She is hoping to find a new job and save for college when she returns home! She has been helping with the babies and any other projects that need to be done!
Wow! You have so much going on. So thankful for the expansion and improvements.
Keep up the God work.
Good for you Rachel!!!! When can I arrange for a group of workers to come serve at Tytoo?
I met Steeve on January 7th when my team was ministering in Minoterie with Mission of Hope. We laid hands on Steeve and prayed he would find a new home. Your orphanage is an answer to that prayer, a real miracle!!!! Thank you for being Gods hands and feet! Give Steeve a big hug for me!
